PLANTALAMPARAS

Nuevo Saposoa is a small jungle village in the Pucallpa region of Peru often left without access to electricity, trying to find a solution, FCB Mayo and UTEC have developed the Plant Lamp system that uses energy from the process photosynthesis to power lamps for the rural community.

Using materials found in abundance in la selva: plants and soil. The clean energy system harnesses the energy created through the natural process of photosynthesis in a grid of electrodes, which is then stored in a battery used to power a LED light bulb.

Each lamp is about the size of an old-fashioned overhead projector, and can shine for up to two hours a day: energy time to finish homework, a sewing project, or play a late night game of cards.
